Jude Law Reflects on His Time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
As Jude Law prepares to enter a galaxy far, far away for this December’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the Hollywood veteran took some time to reflect on his foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Law made his only MCU appearance in Captain Marvel, portraying Yon-Rogg, Carol Denvers’ friend, mentor, and eventual enemy.
While Law had largely good things to say about his time working on Captain Marvel, the actor admitted that he did wish that he had gotten a little more creative freedom.
“It was a really good experience,” he said. “I wish I’d been allowed to have a bit more fun with the part. I wanted [Yon-Rogg] to be more arch. And I wanted to lean into the humor more. Also, those suits are hard to move in because they’re thick rubber. You go to stunt camp for a couple of months, where you’re doing all these fight rehearsals and learning to do all this stuff. And then you put the suit on, and you go, ‘Oh! I can’t touch my toes! How am I going to do all that stuff with this thing on?’ You figure it out though.”
“The Height of Marvel”
Following his debut as Yon-Rogg, Law would later provide the voice of Yon-Rogg in an episode of What…? It is clear that the actor still has an affinity for his character.
Like Christian Bale before him, Law seemingly felt hamstrung by the confines of the Marvel world. As he explained, acting in a big-budget Marvel film is a unique experience. Overall, however, the actor was happy with how things went.
“I don’t think there was much more they could get out of Yon-Rogg. That, for me, was the height of Marvel,” Law concluded.
