Ed Bernero Joins ‘Nova’ As Head Writer and Showrunner
Since at least 2018, Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have been working on a way to introduce Nova into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In 2022, it looked like the project was finally getting underway when Deadline reported that Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada was working on the project.
For two years, however, updates on Nova were few and far between.
Feige Confirmed ‘Nova’ Was in Development Earlier This Year
That changed last July when Feige confirmed that a Nova series was being developed for Disney+. At the time, the Marvel head revealed that the Nova series would focus on the Richard Rider version of the character and teased fans that they could expect to see the project materialize in “three or four years.”
Now, for the first time since Feige’s revelation, we have an update on Nova.
Enter Ed Bernero
A recent report from Deadline revealed that former Criminal Minds showrunner Ed Bernero joined the project as a writer and showrunner. Bernero will replace Pirzada, who has left the project, in his new role.
Unfortunately, outside of Bernero’s involvement and the fact that the series will focus on Richard Rider, we do not know much else about Nova.
Marvel Heads Back to Space
Marvel’s decision to create a series around the intergalactic Nova Corps is interesting due to the cosmic nature of the story. Following the disaster that was Secret Invasion, it seemed that Marvel wanted to focus on street-level stories like Echo, Daredevil: Born Again, or Wonder Man.
Clearly, however, the self-imposed limits that Marvel has put on its streaming output are flexible.
Hopefully, we learn more about Nova soon.
