Anthony Mackie Reveals When ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Begin Filming

While all eyes are currently on Anthony Mackie’s turn as Captain America in Brave New World, the Marvel multiverse will soon come together for Avengers: Doomsday.

With both Downey and the Russo Brothers back for the film, expectations are understandably high. The question for many fans, however, is which Marvel heroes will comprise the new version of the Avengers.

So far, Kevin Feige has confirmed that The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts will both appear in Doomsday. Additionally, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will seemingly appear, as will Charlie Cox’s Daredevil.

There are also continued rumors that Chris Evans will suit up again.

Antony Mackie Weighs In on the New Look Avengers

In a recent interview with Deadline, Anthony Mackie was asked if he knew what Avengers would be joining him in Doomsday.

“I don’t know how many are coming back. RDJ [ Robert Downey Jr.] made the big announcement that he’s coming back. Other than him I don’t know who of the original crew will be coming back, but I know he will be. I’m excited to be able to go to work with him, go toe to toe with him. That’s a once-in-a-career experience that’s as amazing as working with Harrison Ford, because he’s a legend,” Mackie said.

According to Mackie, Doomsday will be something of a changing of the guard for the Avengers. Luckily, they will have Sam Wilson to lead them.

“I’m the OG now. I’m the only guy,” he continued. “ And I’m the Avenger from the old group that brings in the new group. So it’ll be a changing of the guard. As you see in the new trailer, Ross is like, ‘I want you to start up The Avengers.’ So I have to figure out who’s going to be the new Avengers.”

Filming Will Begin This Summer

With just 14 months to go until Doomsday hits theaters, the film has not begun filming yet. According to Mackie, the plan is to begin shooting this summer.

“We shoot in London through the summer and then the following summer we shoot the next one [Avengers: Secret Wars]. It’s going to be a full slate.”
