Tom Hiddleston Discusses His ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Return
When Loki Season 2 concluded, Tom Hiddleston sounded like a man whose time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) had come to an end.
After making his debut as Loki in 2011’s Thor, Hiddleston would reprise his role in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok before the God of Mischief was finally killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Through the power of the multiverse, Hiddleston’s time as Loki continued after the character’s death. A variant of the Asgardian would appear in Avengers: Endgame before starring in the aforementioned self-titled streaming series.
Hiddleston’s Marvel Career Seemed Over
Having played Loki across film and television for twelve years, no one would have blamed Hiddleston for hanging up his horns. In November 2023, it sounded like he would do just that.

“I had no idea, and every time someone says that [it’s been 14 years], it kind of blows my mind because when I was cast in 2009, I was 28, and I’m 43 now, and that’s a big chunk of my adult life I’ve been playing this amazing character,” the actor told Jimmy Kimmel. “It’s changed the course of my life completely.”
With Loki now assuming his place at the center of time as the God of Stories, it seemed that Hiddleston had taken the character’s story as far as it would go.

Still, with the Marvel multiverse set to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Infinity War, fans held out hope that they would see Loki again.
Loki Will Return
That hope was rewarded last month when Marvel Studios officially announced that Hiddleston would return for Avengers: Doomsday.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Hiddleston was asked about his Doomsday return. The actor not only sounded excited but also relieved that he did not have to keep his appearance a secret.
“[I’m] very, very excited,” he said. “It’s really remarkable that I can talk about it because mostly I’m in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything… It’s been an extraordinary chapter of my life playing Loki, and it’s not over yet.”
While it remains to be seen how Loki gets involved with the events of Avengers: Doomsday, the multiversal nature of the film’s story would make him a natural character to include. For fans, however, the most exciting part of Hiddleston’s return is that we will get to see Loki and Thor reunited.

Hopefully, unlike in the last Avengers adventure, both brothers will make it out alive.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
