Kevin Feige Pretty Much Confirms That ‘Blade’ Is Dead

In the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), no project has struggled quite like Blade.

When Marvel announced the film in 2019, it looked like a guaranteed hit. The studio was riding the unprecedented success of Avengers: Endgame, while Mahershala Ali, who was cast as the iconic Daywalker, had just won his second Academy Award for Green Book.

Given that the original Blade films had already proven the character’s box-office appeal, Marvel appeared to have all the ingredients for another blockbuster.

A Production Disaster

Instead, Blade has spent the past seven years mired in development troubles. During that time, the film has been delayed three times, cycled through six screenwriters, and lost two directors.

Nevertheless, it sounded like both Kevin Feige and Mahershala Ali were optimistic that the film would eventually come to fruition.

Now, we have a new update to share.

Kevin Feige Weighs In

During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kevin Feige was asked about the long-gestating Blade project.

His response did not inspire confidence.

“I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.”

Feige’s mention of Blade in the past tense likely indicates the project is dead.

While the Marvel Studios president went on to share his excitement about Wesley Snipes returning as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, it sounds like Marvel’s plans for Ali are dead.
