Fortnite Season 4 Is Here!
Fortnite’s “Nexus War,” known by fans as the “Marvel Season,” has made its debut! In the new season – technically Chapter 2: Season 4 – Marvel super heroes join together to fight Galactus and help save the battle royale island.
Here is the launch trailer released by Epic Games, developer of Fortnite.
The Story Behind Fornite’s Nexus War
As we reported several days ago, Epic has been teasing the new Marvel season for a little while now. They also released an in-game comic book to explain how the crossover happened, as well as the new season’s story.
You can view the comic in its entirety here:
The power of Fotnite’s island lured both Thor and Galactus. Thor had to call upon other heroes to help battle Galactus, including Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America. When Thor drops his hammer, a crater appears on the Fornite island where it lands. The comic ends with the foreboding words “to be continued in season 4.”
Epic describes the upcoming battle as “the war to save reality.”
What’s New
Players are already exploring new superhero skins and a changed map with themed landmarks. While there are not a ton of new things on the island map, it appears that more will be added over time.
For now, players may head to places like Doom’s Domain and Sentinel Graveyard. A SHIELD Helicarrier is featured prominently in the trailer, but most are unsure how that will fit into the “Nexus War” season.
As for Fortnite’s seasonal battle pass, this will enable players to unlock Iron Man, Storm, Mystique, Doctor Doom, Groot and She-Hulk, as well as Thor. Players will also be able to acquire and use superpowers and tools related to these characters and others during matches, including Groot’s bramble shield, and the Silver Surfer’s board. Leveling up the battle pass will also earn players hero-specific emotes.
Epic Games has also teased that a member of the X-Men will be available later in the season. The developer has said: “Be warned, Wolverine has been spotted on the island and he won’t come quietly.”
It appears here are several Marvel-themed, challenge-based items in the game as well. For example, players must identify Bifrost locations and find Claw Marks for Wolverine.
Boss Fights
Before players may battle Galactus, the season’s big boss, there are a few other bosses to fight.
Doctor Doom, supervillain and archenemy of the Fantastic Four, is available as a battle pass skin. The former Pleasant Park is now his base, Doom’s Domain. Featured there are a spooky house, a statue and an underground base with a vault that requires a Doctor Doom keycard to enter.
One of this week’s challenges is defeating Doctor Doom. He has two Mythic items that give him his superpowers. If you beat him, he’ll drop the items, enabling you to take on those abilities. If you are able to kill him, he’ll drop a card that unlocks that secret vault, which players can find under the soccer pitch in the old base.
The First Season Not Available on All Platforms
This is the first new season of Fortnite that is not available on all platforms. Epic is continuing it’s legal battle with Apple and Google over app store fees.
The game developer added a new payment option to mobile versions of the game. Apple and Google then removed Fortnite from their respective app stores and Epic launched a lawsuit. The developer has since released a parody video and Fortnite tournament to drum up support among its fan base.
Therefore, the new season is the the first that will not be available on all platforms. Those who play Fortnite on Apple devices will not have access to this latest update.
