‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Crossover Plans!
News broke this weekend revealing some exciting character crossover plans for Marvel’s upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder. We couldn’t be more excited!
Fans can’t wait to delve further into Thor’s story. The film, currently scheduled for release in February 2022, will serve as a follow up to 2017’s wildly successful Thor: Ragnarok.
Chris Pratt to Reprise Star-Lord
Variety has reported that Chris Pratt will reprise his role from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Appearing as Peter Quill, also know as Star-Lord, Pratt will join Chris Hemsworth in the fourth Thor film.
Pratt’s appearance in the upcoming film is not all that surprising, given the ending of Avengers: Endgame. The last time we saw Peter Quill, he was aboard the Benatar (the M-Class spaceship belonging to the Guardians of the Galaxy), alongside Thor.
This is exciting casting news since the next installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series has been delayed. (Insiders report this was due to a shakeup between parent production company Disney and the franchise director, James Gunn.) Fans will be relieved to hear that Pratt will once again play the role of Star-Lord.
Vin Diesel Will Voice Groot
In June, Groot voice actor Vin Diesel teased that the Guardians of the Galaxy would somehow be involved in Thor: Love and Thunder. That rumor was confirmed when Diesel recently arrived in Australia, where filming will take place over the next few weeks!
More Actors Set to Appear in the Film
In addition to Pratt and Diesel, Christian Bale is said to have been cast in the film. Playing an undisclosed villain, Bale will be the main antagonist in Love and Thunder.
It has also been reported that Natalie Portman will return to the franchise. Portman last played the role of Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest, in 2013’s Thor: Dark World. She is set to be the Goddess of Thunder in this latest installment.
We know that Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor and Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Valkryie. Korg (who is played by Waititi) and Miek are also set to return playing what have been described as “pivotal roles.”
The Plot Will Remain Secret
While casting rumors are slipping out, the plot of the film is a heavily guarded secret. That being said, director Taika Waititi recently did a live, Q & A stream of Thor: Raganarok on Instagram. During the stream, a few new details for Thor: Love and Thunder were revealed.
One thing Waititi revealed was the following concept art for New Asgard.
Waititi also addressed rumors about Silver Surfer’s upcoming appearance in the new film, stating it would not happen. He also said he was unsure if the character Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) would return, as well as Beta Ray Bill whom he admitted he was a fan of.
Sharing that Love and Thunder will be much bigger than Ragnarok, Waititi also teased the appearance of Space Sharks. Fans of the comics know these shark-like creatures as “Starsharks.”
The space-dwelling creatures first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #162. Therefore, could this film mark the X-Men’s first appearance in the MCU?
We are excited to be learning more details about Thor: Love and Thunder. Although fans will still have to wait for the plot to be revealed, it is exciting to have so many casting rumors confirmed!
