Ms. Marvel Adds Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer
In the latest casting announcement for an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel has added Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer.
Who Is Zoe Zimmer?
Zoe was first introduced in 2014’s Ms. Marvel #1 by G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, Ian Herring, Joe Caramagna, Sara Pichelli and Justin Ponsor. Appearing on the second page of that first issue, Zoe is a classmate of Kamala Khan, A.K.A. the eponymous Ms. Marvel – but the two share a somewhat tenuous relationship: in that first issue, Zoe is presented as the “cool kid,” and while Kamala seems to admire her, Zoe also says some offensive things to Kamala (even while pretending to be “nice”).
Later in that issue, Kamala sneaks out to attend a party at the park, where she sees Zoe and some of her other classmates.
But Kamala quickly leaves the crowd, subsequently being exposed to the Terrigen Mists that cause her to undergo her Inhuman transformation, which is where she gains her fabulous shapeshifting abilities!
Then, in Ms. Marvel #2 by Wilson, Alphona, Herring, Caramanga, Jamie McKelvie and Matthew Wilson, Zoe is still at the party at the park when she accidentally falls into the water.
Using her newfound embiggening ability (and inspired by her father’s frequent quotation of the Quran), Kamala leaps into action, making Zoe the first person she rescues with her superpowers!
Era of MCU on Disney+
The era of MCU on Disney+ has officially begun, with new episodes of WandaVision available for streaming each Friday (and did you catch “Breaking the Fourth Wall” yet?). In fact, you can get used to T.G.I.F. meaning “New MCU,” because while WandaVision will be over in just two episodes, it will be followed by The Falcon and the Winter Solider, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, and eventually, Ms. Marvel.
The forthcoming Ms. Marvel series will star Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, and is currently scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in late 2021.
