GUNN: Casting Hasn’t begun for GUARDIANS VOL. 3
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 director James Gunn debunks the rumor that casting is currently underway for the next installment of the Guardians franchise.
James Gunn Debunks Rumor on Twitter
In a somewhat snarky Tweet sent on March 9th, 2021, Gunn rebuked unfounded rumors that casting was underway for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.

Gunn (who is definitely still alive) made a point of calling out multiple elements of the debunked casting rumor, first questioning why a character with gold skin would need to be played by a Caucasian actor.
He also noted that if he was searching for a “Zac Efron” type, he would simply cast Efron himself (a remark that led to a pretty hilarious response from Seth Rogen, who isn’t yet cast in the MCU – but if you ask us here at Marvel Blog, he would make a great casting choice for Benjamin Grimm (A.K.A. Thing) for the Fantastic 4).
Shit I was gonna submit myself for the Zac Efron type.

What’s the Basis for the Adam Warlock Casting Rumors?
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally beginning filming later this year, rumors are swirling about the potential casting of the character Adam Warlock. In fact, speculation about Warlock has been in full swing thanks to the fact that in the Marvel Comics, Warlock emerges from a cocoon.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 (2014), a green, botanical-looking cocoon appears among the treasures in The Collector’s collection. Soon after leaving the movie theater, audience members began speculating that this could be Warlock’s cocoon.
The cocoon re-appeared in the queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, the attraction at Disney’s California Adventure that enlists guests to help Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) rescue the imprisoned Guardians from the clutches of The Collector. According to the plaque on the cocoon’s display, it is of mysterious origin.
And if you guessed that the cocoon’s inclusion sparked further speculation about the appearance of Adam Warlock in a future MCU movie, then you’re right because it did, and seems like the rumors may finally be put to bed – but, then again, could it be Adam Warlock’s cocoon?
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), a mid-credits sequence made it appear as though in the MCU, Warlock will be emerging from what appears to be a mechanical cocoon.

Which actor do you think would be best suited for the role of Warlock? If you don’t feel like playing casting roulette, then what songs do you hope appear on the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Marvel Blog wants to hear from you!
