Dominique Thorne Had No Audition for IRONHEART
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Dominique Thorne confirmed that she did not have an audition for the role of Riri Williams, the starring character of the upcoming Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Ironheart.
Meet Dominique Thorne
Williams is a genius teenage inventor and student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who creates the most advanced suit of power armor since Tony Stark built his in a cave out of box of scraps. She first appeared in the Marvel Comics universe in Invincible Iron Man #7 (2016) by Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles, and before long, she claimed the superhero name of “Ironheart.”
Ironheart will soon be making her way to the MCU thanks to the upcoming MCU Disney+ series, where she’ll be portrayed by Thorne.
Thorne has previously appeared onscreen in If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiah, and you can read more about the young talent in the Empire article above or in a 2019 interview she did with her alma mater Cornell University.
Ironheart is one of the many upcoming MCU shows, and we won’t be seeing her on screen until after other series like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk have already premiered.
Ironheart 101
But in the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the character, there are plenty of comics available on Marvel Unlimited RIGHT NOW that can help you fill in the blanks on the newest superheroic addition to the MCU.
First, you can check out Generations: Iron Man & Ironheart (2017) #1 by Bendis, Marco Rudy, Szymon Kudranski, Nico Leon, Will Sliney, Scott Koblish, Dean White, Paul Mounts, and Cowles. This one-shot was part of the Generations event, which gave the next generation of Marvel Comics superheroes a chance to reflect on the legacy they carried on by having a one-on-one session with their respective progenitors.
In addition to her first appearances in Invincible Iron Man, which begin with issue #7, and in the Generations one shot, she also has two volumes of her own self-titled solo series.
The first solo volume begins with Ironheart (2018) #1 by Eve. L. Ewing, Kevin Libranda, Luciano Vecchio, Geoffo, Matt Milla, and Cowles, with a cover by Amy Reeder. In her first solo series, Riri Williams must step up her game and forge her own future to save the world’s leaders.
And her second outing beginning with 2020 Ironheart (2020) #1 by Vita Ayala, Danny Lore, David Messina, Mattia Iacono, and Joe Caramagna, with a cover by Skan, the story touches on tough issues with a dash of humor. Can Riri and N.A.T.A.L.I.E., the A.I. based on her deceased best friend, weather the storm of 2020?
