Dave Bautista: DRAX No More?
In an interview with Digital Spy, Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista said that Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 may be the last time we’ll see him portray the character on-screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apparently, Bautista feels he’s getting too old to play the character on-screen, but hey, never say never when it comes to the Marvel Universe: Old Man Drax?
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3
Never fear, Marvel Blog True Believers: you can expect to see Bautista reprise the role at least one more time on the big screen, for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3, scheduled for release on May 5th, 2023 (and since director James Gunn has already confirmed that scenes for Cosmic Rewind, the Guardians-themed attraction heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, will be filmed at the same time as the movie, you can expect Drax to appear there, as well).
In the interview, Bautista mentioned that at one point, there was mention of a Drax/Mantis movie, but according to the Destroyer actor, little had been said about the film since Gunn proposed it to Marvel Studios.
Speaking of Gunn (who is still alive, thank you very much), he’s already taken to Twitter to confirm that the role will not be recast in the MCU.

Drax Won’t Be Recast
I don’t know what you think, Marvel Blog True Believers, but I’m quite happy that the role won’t be recast! Bautista is a super hero in his own right: supporting his mom, speaking out for people who couldn’t defend themselves, and sticking his neck out for some of the most vulnerable members of society! Drax the System Destroyer!
Drax first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 1 (2015), returning for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 (2017) and in the video footage for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. He also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Plus, as Marvel Comics devotees are aware, the daughter of Drax (Moondragon) plays a significant role in the 616! Perhaps, it’s time for the next generation of Destroyer to step up to the plate for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 4!
