Young Avengers Report: PATRIOT Standing By!
Is it possible that we may be getting the Young Avengers on-screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We sure hope so, Marvel Blog True Believers! Could Eli Bradley (played by Elijah Richardson) be a future member of the titular Marvel team?
Codename: Patriot!
Thanks to an interview with The Direct, it seems as though another piece of the Young Avengers puzzle may be moving into place!
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eli Bradley is portrayed by Richardson, and the character was first introduced in the second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the episode “New World Order,” in which Bradley is seen living with his grandfather, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), the first Black super soldier, fans met the future Young Avenger (?) for the first time.
In the comics, Eli adopts the handle of “Patriot” in order to pay homage to his grandfather’s service as a superhero.
According to the interview with The Direct, Richardson prepared for the role by reading up on the character’s stories in Marvel Comics:
I did my research after I found out I got the role. I tried to figure out who Elijah Bradley was, and what relationships he might have with other people maybe in the Marvel Universe. I just took that into consideration when approaching the character.
Richardson added that he would be willing to reprise the role of Eli Bradley for a future MCU show, saying that, “Who doesn’t want to be part of the MCU?” And, he’s right, who wouldn’t want to be a part of the Avengers.
A Piece of the New Avengers Puzzle
Patriot is just one piece of the New Avengers puzzle, and some other candidates for the team have alreaady shown up elsewhere in the MCU. In case you want a reminder, here’s a quick rundown of which Young Avengers are already in the MCU!
For one, WandaVision introduced Billy and Tommy Maximoff, who are likely to grow up into Wiccan and Speed, two Young Avengers team members with power sets that recall the previous generation.
And in the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+ (which has now wrapped filming), we’ll meet Kate Bishop, the best of all Hawkeyes! Don’t believe us, ask Lucky the Pizza Dog.
Then, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will introduce America Chavez.
And then, rounding out the roster of potential members is Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott Lang (A.K.A. Ant-Man), who is known as Stature in Marvel Comics.
Plus, Marvel Studios likes to mix things up for the big screen to keep comic book fans guessing, so it’s possible that characters like Ms. Marvel and Ironheart may join the Young Avengers, even though they’re mostly associated with teams like the Champions in the panels of Marvel Comics. We’re dying to find out, Marvel Blog True Believers!
