WHAT IF…? Gets August Release Date, Trailer
In a Tweet sent on Thursday, July 8th, 2021 from the official What If…? Twitter account, it was revealed that the first episode of the series will be released for streaming on August 11th, 2021.

Plus, another trailer for the series was released (which you can watch for yourself below), giving us more tantalizing hints about what’s in store when the animated show arrives in August.

What If…? Wednesdays
As devoted Marvel Blog True Believers are already aware, the What If…? format has a long and storied tradition in the panels of Marvel Comics. It gives readers a chance to see “what would happen if” certain events happened in the Marvel Universe, but without having an effect on the main continuity.
In my humble opinion, the What If…? comics series are some of the best Marvel floppies out there, as they explore absurdist, hysterical, and even sad ideas throughout the Marvel Multiverse.

The animated What If…? adaptation will be an anthology, narrated by Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright). Each episode will allow viewers a window into a different continuity than the one with which we are most familiar from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Who’s Who of What If…?
The questions being asked on the What If…? series seem to include questions like “What if Tony Stark and Killmonger jointed forces,” “What if Peggy Carter became Captain America,” and “What if T’Challa became Star-Lord.”

Plus, the trailer includes some pretty exciting appearances, including Howard the Duck, who will once again be voiced by Seth Green! Marvel Blog True Believers, you know that I’m especially excited to see Howard’s appearance confirmed, and remember you read it here first!

We also get to see more footage from the Marvel Zombies episode, including the undead version of both Captain America and Iron Man (voiced by Robert Downey Jr. himself)! Oh no, it seems like Spider-Man’s worst fears have been confirmed, at least in this alternate reality! Generally, a horde of Marvel zombies means nothing good – they like to devour whole planets!

We also got a glimpse of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as a Futurama-style head in a jar, and Spider-Man with a cape (don’t tell Peter B. Parker).

In addition, we get an exciting glimpse of Wanda Maximoff (A.K.A. Scarlet Witch) going full Nexus Being in a brief clip in the latest trailer.

Excitingly, we also get a longer look at the “what if T’Challa was Star-Lord?” episode that Marvel Studios has been teasing for a long, long time. It looks like some other new members have joined this alternate universe crew, and we will see the return of Taserface!

Arriving August 11th
