REVIEW: Time Seals All Wounds in Kang the Conqueror #2
In Kang the Conqueror #2 by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carlos Magno, Espen Grundetjern, and Joe Caramagna, with a main cover by Mike Del Mundo, we get an extremely unexpected team-up… Kang and Moon Knight! What? It’s true! Read on, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Moon Knight: Now & Then
As you might remember from Kang the Conqueror #1, a young Nathaniel Richards – a teenager in the 31st Century who may ultimately become Kang – ends the issue by traveling to Ancient Egypt, where he ends up facing a dynasty ruled by Kang.
However, in the first pages of Kang the Conqueror #2, things get even more complicated thanks to the arrival of Moon Knight, a character who is always a welcome addition in my opinion!
In Marvel’s current comic book continuity, the character who usually claims the title of Moon Knight is Marc Spector, a complicated individual with a dark back story, whose brain was re-mapped through his encounters with Khonshu, an ancient Egyptian deity who also transforms Spector into his “hand” (metaphorically speaking), or aspect.
In fact, Kang the Conqueror #2 isn’t the only time readers get a story with Khonshu, Kang, and Spector crossing paths. If you want to read more from this trio of characters, Marvel Blog True Believers, then check out Moon Knight Annual #1, a crossover with Marvel Comics’ Acts of Evil! event, by Cullen Bunn, Ibrahim Moustafa, Matt Horak, Mike Spicer, and Joe Sabino, on Marvel Unlimited!
For this reason, it also makes sense that this iteration of young Richards encounters a previous iteration of Moon Knight in Ancient Egypt… but it’s still a very exciting crossover (doubly so when you learn what the name of this Moon Knight is)! I don’t want to spoil anything, but suffice to say that you’ll definitely want to read this issue if you are a fan of the Loki series on Disney+.
Furthermore, the nature of the relationship between the two characters is very interesting (and builds on what we learned about Richards in the previous chapter in a clever way).
Kang the Conqueror #2
With some amazing splash pages and an epic arc, this sophomore issue really shows what the Kang series is capable of!
What will transpire in future issues? There seems to be virtually no limit to the possibilities.
