GAEL GARCIA BERNAL Cast in MCU Halloween Special
In an article posted to the Variety website on Thursday, November 4th, 2021, it was announced that Gael García Bernal had been cast in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Halloween Special, to be released for streaming on Disney+ (mostly likely next year). Could he be playing Werewolf by Night?
Halloween Special
The most devoted of Marvel Blog True Believers will already be well aware that a MCU Halloween special is in the works at Disney+. While few details are currently known about the project, it seems that it will be based on the character Werewolf by Night and will begin production in early 2022.
This creates loads of crossover potential. For one thing, in the original origin story for Werewolf by Night, the hilariously-named Jack Russell became a lycanthrope after he read from the pages of the Darkhold (that’s the book of the damned, currently possessed by Wanda Maximoff, played in the MCU by Elizabeth Olsen).
However, like many other Marvel Comics characters, Russell isn’t the only individual to bear the “Werewolf by Night” moniker: Jake Gomez also uses the name and has a similar werewolf-transformation powerset. Furthermore, as Marvel Blog reported in August 2021, the casting call for the Halloween Special was for “a Latino male in his thirties,” hinting that Gomez might have been cast as the lycanthropic subject of the special!
Bernal is no stranger to appearing in on-screen adaptations of comics: he starred in Old, directed by M. Knight Shyamalan, and based on the graphic novel Sandcastle.
Is it possible we’ll also be seeing Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight in the special? Well, look at it this way, Marvel Blog True Believers: everyone and their mother wants to cross over with this upcoming MCU character, so why not bring him out for a special?
Werewolf by Night
