Grogu Coming to the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Little Grogu comes to this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Better known as “Baby Yoda,” the massive Grogu balloon (Groguun?) was spotted in New York City is gearing up for the big day.

Grogu was officially known as “The Child” in the Disney+ original series The Mandalorian before his proper name was finally revealed at the end of the first season. His appearance at the beloved annual parade is inspired not just by the Star Wars streaming series, but “The Child” toy from Funko Pop.
If you’ve ever watched NBC’s annual coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the trivia on the event’s site may seem familiar. Highlighting the massive size of Grogu’s balloon, they claim that he’s as tall as a 3-story building and as wide as “7 taxi cabs.”
Grogu will be joined by many other familiar balloon faces this year, including Ronald McDonald, Dragonball‘s Goku, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘s Greg Hefley. Peanuts’ Snoopy, the beloved beagle of Charlie Brown, is a recurring player at the parade, and this year he’ll be appearing as an astronaut.
As much as I love Grogu, my favorite balloon at the Thanksgiving Parade every year will always be Spider-Man. I can’t seem to find confirmation that he’ll be attending this year, but he has been known to make appearances throughout the parade’s nearly-100 year history. My maternal grandparents, both native New Yorkers, took me to see the balloons being prepared as a kid. I have fond memories of being struck by the sheer scale of balloon Spidey.
Besides, Spider-Man is the quintessential New York City superhero. He just seems like he belongs there. Plus, word is we’re getting a new trailer tomorrow for Spider-Man: Far From Home! Spidey’s absence would be a huge missed opportunity.
In any event, I’m sure Grogu and his Force-wielding, cookie-stealing ways will delight everyone on Thanksgiving. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have any unfortunate run-ins with Goku.
