‘Moon Knight’ Director Explains Why He Thinks the Character is Here to Stay
There are few Marvel heroes who have so quickly established themselves within the MCU fanbase; an establishment that has led Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab to explain why he truly thinks the character is here to stay.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has undergone a bit of a resurgence in this most recent iteration; the MCU’s Phase Four has the feel of a brand new direction for the decade-plus spent building the vast expanse of this interconnected film universe.
Easily being established as the Studios most emotionally charged entry, Phase Four has also stood as the most creatively ambitious, with the various projects all attempting to redefine what it means to be a Marvel film; and actively breaking the mold in the process.
Few projects from this phase did that as well as Marvel’s most recent Disney+ entry, Moon Knight.
A story that we would easily call Marvel’s best series yet, Moon Knight is a journey that is Marvel’s most mature yet, while still bringing to life the iconic superhero in a way that feels immensely fresh to the overall universe as a whole.
Tackling dense and important themes like child abuse and mental illness, we have often said that the series walks the impossible tight rope of making these things feel handled with immense care, while also making it feel at home in a universe constructed on superpowered heroes and villains.
With the character’s first season being an immense and undeniable success, Moon Knight director, Mohamed Diab, talked about why he believes the character is here to stay, in a recent interview recorded by ComicBook.com
Diab stated, “IF you ask me, I would tell you that Moon Knight is here to sta. He’s an interesting character. If you are Marvel, I think the smart business decision is to keep him. The only this is, that MArvel is not traditional. If you succeed, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna get a Season 2.”
The director continued, “By the way, I’m kept in the dark. I have no clue. I’m just thinking like a businessman right now. But I think they’re going to stay. Maybe it’s going to be a film. Maybe it’s going to be a journey like what happened with WandaVison.”
He concluded by stating, “I wish one day, if there is an expansion, I would be a part of it. We ended in a way that feels like a beginning. You see Mark and Steven becoming a new dynamic, the two of them in one body. We see Jake. You see the Scarlet Scarab, who could be a superhero or not.”
We absolutely agree with Diab, and feel like Moon Knight is a character that Marvel must maintain in the overarching MCU; as his story seems far from over.
