Sebastian Stan Compares ‘Thunderbolts*’ to an Iconic 80s Film
At last night’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, Marvel star Sebastian Stan was asked about his return as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in Thunderbolts*.
Ahead of the film’s release, Stan and his co-stars have teased that Thunderbolts* will be a very different kind of Marvel movie. As opposed to the immaculate Avengers, the Thunderbolts are made up of former villains and antiheroes.
Earlier this year, David Harbour, who will reprise his Black Widow role as Red Guardian, explained that the team hates each other.
“I don’t know that any of ’em get along. They’re thrust together as the worst people in the worst situations,” the actor explained.
“I think that’s the fun of the movie is that it’s the opposite of a love triangle. This person hates this person, hates this person, hates this person, and is annoyed and wants to get rid of this person.”
Stan Compares ‘Thunderbolts*’ to ‘The Breakfast Club’
When describing the film to Entertainment Tonight this weekend, Stan compared Thunderbolts* to an iconic 80s film.
“I think this movie is very singular and will stand on its own,” Stan explained.
“And I know these are bold words, but there’s no other Marvel group that you can kind of compare us to. It’s its own thing. I like The Breakfast Club, that’s the best way of describing it. A pair of misfits that hopefully don’t kill each other.”
A Big Swing For Marvel
With Thunderbolts* Marvel is clearly looking to scale back the MCU’s intergalactic narratives and focus on a character-driven story.
Hopefully, like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film breathes new life into the MCU’s tried and true format and delivers something unique.
