Seth Rollins Says His Role Has Been Cut From ‘Captain America: Brave New World’
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, it appeared that WWE superstar Seth Rollins was set to make his debut in Captain America: Brave New World.
While Rollins’s character was never revealed, set photos showed the wrestler in full costume, with many speculating that he would play a member of the Serpent Society.
Needless to say, fans were excited.
Captain America: Brave New World’s Long Journey to Theaters
As a quick recap, Kevin Feige officially announced a fourth Captain America film at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. At the time, the film was titled Captain America: New World Order, and it was expected to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
Over the next year, production on the film seemed to be moving along nicely. Marvel quickly revealed that Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez would reprise their The Falcon and the Winter Soldier roles as Isiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres, respectively. Tim Blake Nelson was also revealed to be returning as Samuel Sterns/Leader.
In October 2022, Harrison Ford signed on to play Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk, assuming the role from the late Willaim Hurst.
Over the last two years, however, the film ran into multiple setbacks. In June 2023, the movie was retitled Captain America: Brave New World, and Julius Onah was brought in to work on the script, replacing Dalan Musson.
Subsequently, the film’s release date was pushed back to July 26, 2024.
Due in part to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Marvel delayed the release of Brave New World again, this time pushing it to February 13, 2025.
With additional time to work on the film, reshoots were done, and Matthew Orton was brought in to write additional scenes. At this point, Giancarlo Esposito was added to the film as Sidewinder, leader of the Serpent Society.
Reportedly, Marvel has continued tinkering with the film after it did poorly in test screenings. That brings us back to Rollins.
Rollins’s Role Was Cut
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Rollins revealed that he will no longer appear in the final film. He blamed his absence on the numerous changes made to Brave New World during its production.
“It releases in February, I wish it the best, but I am not a part of that film,” Rollins explained.
“Does my NDA still apply if I’m not in the film anymore? You know what, truth be told, any answer I gave would only be my opinion on it. The script went through a lot of rewrites and reshoots. What I was there to do, essentially my role, either got repurposed or completely erased.”
While Rollins will not appear in the Brave New World, the wrestler/actor is not closing the door on a future Marvel appearance.
“I did do a bit of an audition to pop into another role, I believe, or the repurposing of my role, I’m not exactly sure on what it was. But they ended up going in a different direction with it. My understanding is there were a lot of rewrites, and a lot of reshoots, and they got a finished product they’re happy with.”
Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on February 14.
