Marvel Dominates MTV Movie and TV Awards!
MTV’s 2021 Movie and TV Awards aired last night and Marvel won big!
WandaVision Wins Four Awards
WandaVision had six nominations, the most of all shows and movies honored at the event. The Disney+ series focused on Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a. Scarlet Witch) conjuring an alternate reality in which she and her lost love, Vision, live their lives through sitcoms spanning several different decades. Not only did WandaVision win the award for Best Show, its actors won several awards as well.
Elizabeth Olsen won the golden popcorn trophy for Best Performance in a Show. As fans are well aware, Olsen portrays Wanda Maximoff in the series.
In her acceptance speech, Olsen said: “I’ve loved playing this part for seven years. Really, nothing could’ve been better than to have WandaVision. We had so much fun making it, and I hope we moved you. I hope we entertained you.”
Kathryn Hahn won the golden popcorn trophy for Best Villain, honoring her portrayal of Marvel witch Agatha Harkness.
Fans will recall the epic battle between Wanda and Agatha in the season finale. Not surprisingly, that battle won the award for Best Fight.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Wins Two Awards
The second Marvel/Disney+ series to be honored was The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This series follows the characters Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan) in the wake of Captain America’s death.
Best Hero award went to Anthony Mackie for his role, which progresses to the new Captain America, in the series.
Scarlett Johansson Receives the MTV Generation Award
Yet another Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star, Scarlett Johansson, was granted the MTV Generation Award. The award honors her career, which has included several turns as Natasha Romanoff, known more commonly as Black Widow, in Marvel films.
Although she did not attend the award show in person, she offered comments through a virtual acceptance speech. “This award really belongs to many hundreds of creative people all over the world, and thank you so much to my fans for riding the wave with me and for supporting my career so I can continue to have the good fortune to pursue the job that is my passion.”
Black Widow & Loki Clips Premiere
To top off its domination of the evening, Marvel aired a brand new trailer for the much anticipated Black Widow. Having been delayed several times, the film is now set to make its debut in theaters and through Disney+ Premiere Access on July 9th.
Marvel also aired a sneak peek of the equally anticipated Disney+ series, Loki. Set to make its debut on June 9, the six-episode series will see Tom Hiddleston return as Loki. The God of Mischief will be joined by Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino (among others) to document what transpires after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
What a night for the MCU!
