NEW!!! Marvel Studios’ ETERNALS Trailer Dropped
Happy Monday, Marvel Blog True Believers! It’s official. We have a FULL first-look teaser Eternals trailer, and we couldn’t be more excited with the movie coming out on November 5th, 2021!
Marvel Studios’ Eternals
Marvel’s next big superhero movie is Eternals, directed by Chloé Zhao, who recently won an Academy Award for Best Director for her work on Nomadland starring Fances McDormand.
So far, we know that Eternals is meant to occur after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and that the story will introduce both the Celestials (who created the Eternals the protect humanity on Earth) and the Deviants (an evolutionary offshoot intended to rid the Earth of humanity).
With the latest Eternals trailer – which dropped just this morning – fans can get a first-look at the all-star ensemble cast that director Zhao and Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer and President Kevin Feige assembled for this film.
The ensemble cast line-up (and, let me just say, they look super fly all together!) includes Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), followed by Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and finishing off with Sprite (Lia McHugh).
Who Are the Eternals?
In the latest teaser trailer, we get a glimpse at most of the cast! At Marvel Blog, we think that’s the coolest part of the Eternals trailer release from Marvel Studios, so we pulled images of each character for your viewing pleasure.
Ridloff is playing Makkari, an impatient speedster.
Nanjiani is playing Kingo, one of the most skilled swordsman on Earth.
Jolie is playing the role of Thena, the daughter of Zuras (not to be confused with Zeus), who, in the comics, has a love affair with the enemy. She can also fly and has super strength.
Lee is playing Gilgamesh. In the comics, this character is first introduced as the Forgotten One, an Eternal exiled by Thena’s parents because he spent too much time around hoomans. He must take on several alias because he is living in exile.
Madden is playing Ikaris, a very powerful Eternal who can fly, levitate others, shoot beams of cosmic energy from his eyes, and teleport.
Chan is back, and this time she’s playing Sersi, an Eternal who willingly lives among the hoomans. In Marvel Comics, she becomes an Avenger.
Brian Tyree Henry is playing Phastos, an openly gay Marvel character who was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 1985. Dedicated readers might know that representation is important to me, so learn more about this character from CBR!
Hayek is playing a gender-swapped version Ajak, a character who has been on worshiped as deity by ancient civilizations.
Keoghan is playing Druig, an aloof loner who is a former member of the KGB and Ikaris’ cousin.
And finishing up, McHugh is playing a gender-swapped Sprite, who looks young but is actually thousands of years old. In the comics, Sprite can change their appearance.
Who Is Black Knight?
In addition, Eternals will introduce Dane Whitman (played by the other Game of Thrones star Kit Harington) and his tortured superhero “alter ego” Black Knight. Although Whitman is not actually an Eternal, he’s a physicist with a passion for making himself a hero… at any cost.
Dane Whitman was first introduced in Avengers #47 (1967) by Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, John Buscema, George Tuska, and L.P. Gregory. And, although he was absent from the pahes of Marvel Comics for awhile, the character recently returned in Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #1 by Si Spurrier, Sergio Dávila, Sean Parsons, Arif Prianto, and Cory Petit.
Marvel Blog True Believers, we are meeting a lot of new characters in the next phase! Which hero are you most excited to learn more about after the Eternals trailer dropped this morning?
