REVIEW: Power-Up in Tech-On Avengers #1
In Tech-On Avengers #1 by Jim Zub, Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz, and Travis Lanham, with a main cover by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Schimoguchi, a familiar team of Avengers faces off against a threat that seems a bit familiar (but also a bit different)! Prepare to power-up with the Tech-On Avengers!
Tech-On Avengers
Full disclosure: this comic is a sequel to a previous run, Avengers Mech Strike, but I was able to follow along with this series without a problem even though I had never read the preceding storyline. And thanks in part to a quick recap in the early pages, and also, because at this point, Marvel Blog True Believers, I think we can all fill in the blanks on a showdown with Thanos.
But while the Avengers may have previously defeated Thanos and destroyed the Infinity Stones, there is still apparently some residual Infinity Stone dust, and the Red Skull is using that dust to alter reality once again!
The Red Skull’s first action is to de-power all of our heroes (which results in Ben Grimm looking kind of adorable in his oversized The Thing costume).
Fortunately, Tony Stark has a solution (and it’s pretty similar to something we all saw happen in the first episode of What If…? this week, the HYDRA Stomper). It takes the whole issue to reveal said solution, so I won’t specifically mention it here, but suffice to say that it makes a lot of sense, knowing what we know about Tech-On Avengers!
And more to the point, it’s a very satisfying and sensible conclusion for this first issue.
Issue 2 Arrives Soon
This was a fun story that included some especially amazing art! This style is great for action (and I think it will serve the sophomore issue, which promises an appearance by Venom, even better than it did the first).
