Chris Evans Is Ready to Square Off With Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, it seemed that Chris Evans’ time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had come to an end.
After playing Steve Rogers for eight years across seven films, it looked like Captain America’s story had reached a fitting conclusion with his happy ending in Avengers: Endgame.
For years, Evans insisted he was done. Having passed the shield to Anthony Mackie, he appeared ready to move on from the role.

Then the Russo Brothers came calling about Avengers: Doomsday.
Steve Rogers Has Been Thrown Back Into the Spotlight
Suddenly, Evans was back in the Marvel fold, and Steve Rogers was once again at the center of the story.

The first Doomsday teaser even showed Steve riding his motorcycle home to Peggy and later holding their child.
“Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,” the teaser concludes.

At CinemaCon last week, Evans finally addressed his return, explaining that the timing felt right.
A Showdown Is Coming
Joining Evan at CinemaCon was longtime co-star Robert Downey Jr. Over the years, the duo has fought side by side in the Avengers films and squared off in Captain America: Civil War.
For Doomsday, however, Downey will not be playing Tony Stark, but Victor Von Doom. That will be a new dynamic.

“It was 15 years ago that Downey and I began sparring as these characters, and we fought together, we fought against each other, sometimes on the same team, but this guy is a new man,” Evans said.
“I love you, Downey, but this guy, I don’t like him. I don’t like [Doctor Doom].”

Once again, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to rest on the shoulders of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
