Marvel Artist Accused of Plagiarism
Greg Land, the Marvel artist responsible for cover art for the new Aliens Omnibus comic, has been accused of plagiarism. And this is not the first time!
Notoriety Precedes Land’s Work
Greg Land has long been criticized for tracing photos and other comics in his work for both Marvel and DC. It is not uncommon for comic book illustrators to draw upon photo references in their work. However, Land had often used them overabundantly in his work.
When one Artist’s Work Closely Resembles That of Another
While Land has long been criticized, it looks like he may have gone too far this time. The artwork in Aliens Omnibus bears a strong resemblance to artist Tristan Jones’ work in previous Alien illustrations.
Jones took to Twitter to voice his concerns.

Artistic History of Alien and Predator
As MarvelBlog previously reported, Marvel acquired the rights to Alien and Predator back in July. Before the acquisition, the franchise was owned by Dark Horse Comics.
Tristan Jones created artwork for several Alien comics in the past, including the well-known 2016 series Aliens: Defiance. Since news of Disney’s acquisition of the franchise, several new Marvel titles were announced for Alien and Predator comic books.
The new Alien Omnibus comic is a re-release from Marvel Comics of old Aliens comics from the 1980s and 1990s. While the content is not new, the featured cover art by Greg Land is.
When one reviews the side-by-side comparisons Jones posted of his work with the new cover art, it’s hard to find any explanation other than plagiarism. In addition, many are surprised Marvel would choose Land to create the art. While his name is more recognizable, Jones has more experience illustrating the characters featured in the new book.
Whatever the truth is, we’ll be following this story as it develops!
