Marvel Fans Celebrate Anniversary of Sam Wilson Becoming Captain America in the MCU
With Marvel’s Phase Four being defined by its evolution of the MCU, Marvel fans are celebrating the anniversary of Sam Wilson becoming Captain America in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.
With Marvel’s commitment to long-form storytelling coming to fruition in their Phase Four series debuting on Disney+, there were few entries as poignant and interesting as Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The series explored the two eponymous characters, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, who both journeyed to a grow beyond the names that they both were known.
Wilson fought against the pressure and expectation set upon him by the unbearable weight of the shield that Steve Rogers left behind, while Bucky attempted to heal beyond the pain he caused while in control of Hydra as the Winter Soldier.
The series presented the iconic characters in the roles they were meant to leave behind, and while Bucky was able to escape the horrors of his past offense as the Winter Soldier, it was Sam who grew strong enough to bear the burden of the Captain America mantle.

There are few characters in the MCU, and in Marvel lore, who mean more to the characters in-universe than that Captain America; who has transcended to become one of the most beloved characters of the entire Marvel Universe.

Sam Wilson embracing the shield that Steve Rogers bestowed upon him was a moment incomparable significant in time, as it spoke on a new Captain America, for a new MCU, and a new generation.
And the opportunity for Wilson to etch his name in Marvel history, in the same way, his predecessor did.
