Denzel Washington Reveals ‘Black Panther 3’ Is in Development and He Will Star in It
Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler are officially working on Black Panther 3, at least according to Denzel Washington.
During a recent appearance on Australia Today, the Hollywood legend revealed that he will appear in only a handful of films before retiring.
“I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70,” explained. “After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
Marvel Has Not Announced ‘Black Panther 3’
Washington’s revelation that he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Black Panther 3 is interesting for several reasons.
For starters, Marvel has yet to officially announce that Black Panther 3 is in development. The last time we got an update on a potential continuation of the franchise, Kevin Feige admitted that he had talked to Ryan Coogler about another Black Panther story; however, nothing was definite.
By the sound of things, Coogler has made real progress, especially if he is writing a role for Washington.
Chadwick Boseman Credited Washing to ‘Black Panther’s’ Success
Additionally, Denzel already has a connection to the Black Panther franchise.
While Washington has yet to officially appear in an MCU film, the late Chadwick Boseman once explained that he owed his career to Washington. As it turns out, the Hollywood legend once paid for Boseman’s acting school one summer.
“There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington,” Boseman explained.
Perhaps more importantly, when honoring Washington with the 2019 AFI Life Achievement Award, Boseman explained that Black Panther would never have been possible without Washington breaking barriers.
“My whole cast stands on your shoulders,” Boseman told Washington. “The daily battles won, the thousand territories gained, the many sacrifices you made for the culture on film sets through your career, the things you refused to compromise along the way lay the blueprints for us to follow.”
While we still do not know any plot details, let alone a release date for Black Panther 3, the film is coming. And to think, we have Denzel Washington to thank for breaking the news.
