Captain America and Antman Reunite!
In case you missed it, one of the best parts of this past weekend was watching Chris Evans and Paul Rudd reunite for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” segment originally published on Thursday.
The actors, who starred as Captain America and Antman together in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” talked about what it was like to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). You can see the great rapport shared by the actors in their entertaining conversation.
Chris Evans on Playing Captain America
When Rudd asked about how he felt playing Captain America amid swirling expectations, Evans said:
“With a character in [the Marvel Cinematic Universe], you’re the first tracks in the snow [for viewers]. It’s intimidating and overwhelming. But working at Marvel, everyone makes you feel so comfortable. It’s such a group effort, you know that every decision is going to be vetted over endlessly. Very quickly you put down your fear and realize you’re in good hands.”
Paul Rudd on Playing Antman
Similarly, Rudd shared what it was like playing Antman, one of the less-known Marvel characters:
“You don’t want to be the weak link. A character like Ant-Man, yeah, very few people knew. They’d say, ‘Well, what does Ant-Man do?’ And I’d say, ‘He can shrink to the size of an ant, but he also retains strength, and he can control ants and talk to ants.’ And people would just laugh.”
Paul Rudd and His Past Friends Fame
One of the funniest parts of the conversation happened when Evans questioned Rudd about what it was like to be on the hit show, Friends. He played Mike Hannigan, Phoebe’s boyfriend/husband, from 2002-2004.
‘I felt, “I’m like a prop on this show. It’s not about Mike Hannigan,”‘ But there’s a very interesting feeling to be a part of something that has that kind of profound impact on pop culture.’
Chris Evans a Music Video Producer?
Evans revealed that he gave up on his plans to create a video of the Avengers cast dancing to “We Go Together” from Grease. Apparently, Rudd was asked to participate during their first day on set together. Evans said:
“You willingly danced with little explanation from me, and then I never completed the video. I just abandoned it. But I got that footage of our first day of meeting of you dancing.”
The Avengers’ Favorite Game
The actors also revealed the hottest game on the Endgame set between takes… Boggle! According to Evans, Rudd was the winner, followed by Don Cheadle (War Machine) and “[Mark] Ruffalo (the Hulk) comes in way at the end.”
