Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Filming with Elizabeth Olsen
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are about to see a lot more Wanda! According to an interview with Elizabeth Olsen conducted by Empire Magazine, the WandaVision star is currently in London filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) is the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) introducing the pompous hero to the MCU. In the film, fans will see the eponymous Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) in an adventure that will include Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, the titular Scarlet Witch.
And, of course, MCU fans are excited to speculate about the relationship between the upcoming WandaVision series on Disney+ and the forthcoming Doctor Strange movie.
Marvel Team-Up: Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch
WandaVision is a 6-episode series that will be released weekly on Disney+ beginning in January 2021. In the series, Wanda settles down in idyllic sitcom suburbia with her late lover, the Vision. As the season goes on, reality seems come apart at the seams, with the narrative skipping through sitcom pastiches spanning the decades.
The WandaVision trailer immediately calls to mind several Marvel Comics stories. In Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1982), for example, the 616’s odd couple moves into a suburban home. And the first issue in the mini-series even features plenty of trick-or-treating children, calling to mind the trailer for the upcoming television series.
In the West Coast Avengers storylines that begin in issue #42 (1989), fans can read the comic book arc concerning the young children of Vision and Wanda. For MCU fans, these comics call to mind the glimpses of the couple holding infants in the WandaVision trailer.
You can read both of these stories on Marvel Unlimited if you want to prepare for the upcoming Disney+ series! They are already available on the digital comics service. I have included the links (see above) for your reading pleasure.
The precise connection between WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is not currently known. But it is interesting to think of all the possibilities!
With Gillian Jacobs and Alison Brie joining the ranks of other Community alums in the MCU thanks to the recently released Disney+ documentary series Marvel’s 616, this writer is hoping that Wanda and Stephen might get a chance to say hello to Rick and Morty in Universe C-137 as they’re traveling the multiverse!
