RUMOR: Is WOLVERINE Finally Joining the MCU?
Is the beloved mutant Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in the recent movies featuring the character, going to be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We’ve been hoping so, Marvel Blog True Believers, and some social media clues might indicate that the day is finally upon us!
Although maybe we’ll still have to wait? Right now, we only have some hints, but this is part two of Marvel Blog investigates Wolverine’s path to the MCU, and we’ll continue to share any updates along the way anyway!
The Evidence
This rumor was sparked by two posts that Jackman made to his Instagram account over the weekend. Both of them were posted in his “story,” which means that the images vanished twenty-four hours after he posted them, but luckily we were there to grab some screenshots!
The first was a Boss Logic image of Wolverine’s titular claws. Boss Logic creates lots of official art for Marvel… but also creates plenty of personal fan art, unconnected to any current projects. For example, he has made pictures of Brie Larson as Samus, even though no Metroid movie is currently in production (sadly).
After posting the Boss Logic Wolverine image, Jackman followed up with another image in his story. This one was a photograph of Jackman and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige standing next to one another.
Just a Coincidence?
Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Jackman posted a picture with Feige, but we do want to note that catching the attention of the big guy isn’t always a bad idea.
For example, one of the few Fox era Marvel characters who is confirmed to have survived the Disney acquisition of the studio is Deadpool… and Ryan Reynolds went out of his way to court Feige, even including a reference to him the first Deadpool movie (check out the pizza box in the first act, Marvel Blog True Believers).
What’s the deal? Is this another Fietro situation, or will we be seeing Jackman as Logan/Wolverine the next time the Disney+ shows head to Madripoor? And as our writer, Bridget Edwards has already speculated that place could be connected to Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars or perhaps as soon Spider-Man: No Way Home!
