Iman Vellani: New Kid on the Block

Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan in the new Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Vellani is a newcomer to the film industry, but was a member of the Next Wave Committee at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival. Her work has added diversity to Hollywood and now Marvel Studios.

Staying True to Kamala Khan

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said that Kamala Khan will appear in both series, and feature films. The Studio stayed true to the character when casting Velani–she’ll be their first onscreen Muslim hero.

For the first time, Muslim Americans will see a series that attempts to capture their culture and their perspective on how various challenges and celebrations effect their lives.

Directors, Check

Directors Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon will all direct the series. The directors have plenty of experience under their belts, including 2 Oscar nods and experience directing some great shows like The Walking Dead, The Punisher, Dirty John, and Outlander.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is a Pakistani-American teenager that debuted in Marvel Comics in 2014. As the character steps off the page and onto the screen, we here at MarvelBlog have great confidence Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan will also step into our hearts.

Disney+ Expanding the MCU

According to Kevin Feige, the TV series is only the beginning of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel’s MCU journey. She’ll grace the small and big screens.

A lot is coming to Disney+ in the near future. WandaVision is set for release this year, Ms. Marvel, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Solider are scheduled to air 2021.
