Marvel Legends Reveals Angelina Jolie’s Eternals Role
More packaging from the Eternals wave of Hasbro’s wildly popular Marvel Legends line has appeared online, giving fans a first look at the characterization of Thena, the Eternals character played by Angelina Jolie.
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios was set to introduce fans to The Eternals – the movie’s original name – earlier this year. And they gathered an all-star cast to bring these characters to the big screen.
However, before an unexpected fictional tragedy could force the Eternals out of the shadows to fight against mankind’s most ancient enemy, a real world tragedy hit that prevented film studios from producing content and releasing it into movie theaters: COVID-19.
Eternal Toy Sleuth – For Now
I AM A HUGE MARVEL FAN. I quit being a lawyer to open Avengers Campus at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, California. So, 2020 is a massive disappointment to me for many reasons. That being said: Super Hero Fatigue IS REAL. And, this year, it was a nice unintended break from fictional superheroes with the blip from the Marvel Studios production and release schedule.
I don’t think that Chloe Zhao‘s Eternals would have been released on time in a perfect world. Even for me, a die-hard fan, I needed some time to recharge my batteries and get excited for Phase 4 of the MCU. And, honestly, all the toy sleuthing done over the holiday season DID get me more excited than ever.
Marvel Legends’ Legendary Sleuthing
Before Hollywood ground to a halt earlier this year, Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company marketing machine were already gearing up for a regular year of money making with their entertainment and consumer products. And fans were getting in on the fun: guessing what each toy and product could mean for the franchise’s future.
Hm… Salma Hayek In New Ajak Headgear
For example, in September 2020, we saw a standalone figure of Ajak, who will be played by Salma Hayek, from the Marvel Legends toy line. It was the best look fans have had at the character so far, and the look featured some new artwork of the character on the sides and back.

Fans often get different looks at characters and storylines from the merchandising assets that Marvel releases in advance of its movies, shows, and comics.
However, Marvel knows that fans will pick apart anything they release. Therefore, sometimes the toys are designed with intentional misdirection, like the Endgame LEGO set that showed War Machine sized-up by Pym Particles (a scene that did not take place in the movie).
Angelina Jolie’s Thena + Gilgamesh = BFF
More packing of the Eternals-centric wave recently appeared online, with Gilgamesh serving as the wave’s Build-A-Figure. Not only did the new packaging give fans a glimpse at Angelina Jolie’s characterization of Thena, but it also revealed that Gilgamesh and Thena are “de-facto partners.”

According to the tweet from Comicbook.com the figure’s description reads, “the strongest and kindest Eternal, Gilgamesh becomes Thena’s de-facto partner when the events of the past exile them from the other Eternals.” In addition to the six-piece Build-A-Figure, Ikaris (Richard Madden), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Druig (Barry Keoghan) are the other figures included.
Eternals is currently set to release on November 5, 2021. But where is out first look trailer?
